GUWAHATI: With the curfew being relaxed In Guwahati from 9am to 4pm, the city slowly looked to be heading to normalcy as people stepped out of their homes looking for vegetables, grocery, fuel and cash as several residents faced a severe crunch over the past two days with the curfew being imposed in Guwahati.
“Over 7 ATMs in my locality are not functioning. The past few days have been extremely difficult,” said M. Pandey, a resident of Kalapahar.
“The prices of vegetables have skyrocketed with onions being sold for as high as Rs. 250 per kg and radish for over Rs. 100. Petty cash would just not do anymore. Even the local fuel depot had an extremely long queue and I had to wait for over an hour to fill up petrol. The past 2 days have been harrowing,” said S. Varma, a resident of Bhangagarh.
Most ATMs in the city are running short on cash and vegetable markets are short on supply, leading to skyrocketing of prices. It is not clear until when the markets will return to complete normalcy.
