Delhi CAA Violence: 18 Killed, NSA Ajit Doval Reviews Situation

GUWAHATI: The violence that erupted over the amended Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Delhi saw an escalation on Tuesday, February 25 as the death toll reached to 18 with over 200 injured in Northeast Delhi region.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has been given charge of bringing Delhi violence under control. Doval visited Jafrabad, Seelampur and other parts of Northeast Delhi to take stock of the situation.

According to hospital authorities, 200 people, including 48 police personnel, have been injured and half of the civilians have suffered gunshot wounds.

Several localities like Chand Bagh, Bhajanpura, Gokulpuri, Maujpur, Kardampuri and Jaffrabad saw pitched battles between the members of two groups who also hurled petrol bombs and opened fire.

Further, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal wrote to home minister to call in the army and impose curfew to control the situation.       

Kejriwal tweeted on Wednesday, “I have been in touch with large no of people whole night. Situation alarming. Police, despite all its efforts, unable to control situation and instil confidence Army should be called in and curfew imposed in rest of affected areas immediately am writing to Hon’ble HM to this effect.”

Additionally, the security personnel also conducted flag-march in Maujpur area on Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, a Delhi Police head constable lost his life in the violence who was attached to the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Gokulpuri.
