GUWAHATI: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Tuesday, July 23 announced that the deadline to file income tax returns for financial year 2018-19 has been extended to August 31, from the previous deadline of July 31.
In a statement, the CBDT stated that the due date for filing of income tax returns for assessment year 2019-20 is July 31, 2019 for certain categories of taxpayers.
However, the following categories of taxpayers have been given an extension to file their income tax returns. They include individuals, body of individuals (BOI), Hindu Undivided Families (HUF) and Association of Persons (AOP).
It should be noted that with the July 31 deadline fast approaching, several individual taxpayers had written to the government on social media and other forums to extend the deadline as they had not received the required documentation for filing tax returns.
