Creative awards conferred to Deep Choudhury, Anurag Saikia

At an award function held at the Kumar Bhaskar Natya Mandir, Guwahati on March 10, Saturday, filmmaker Deep Choudhury received the Bidyut Chakravarty Creative Award 2018, while music director Anurag Saikia was conferred the Sher Choudhury Creative Award 2018.

The awards were given as part of a joint initiative by Oil India Limited and cultural organization, Surjya, in association with the Bidyut Chakravarty Creative Trust. Each award comprised a trophy, a citation and a cash prize of Rs 50,000. Eminent filmmaker Dr Santwana Bardoloi was the speaker for the function.

The Bidyut Chakravarty Creative Award has been instituted in the memory of Bidyut Chakravarty, who made his debut as director of ‘Raag Biraag’, which won three national awards. He served as a jury member for the national awards and was also the president of Surjya till his death. On the other hand, the Sher Choudhury Creative Award has been dedicated to Sher Choudhury, who composed music for the national award winning film ‘Pratham Ragini’ and Karbi film ‘Wosobipo’, which fetched him a national award for best music director.

Award winning film director Deep Choudhury co-directed his first short film ‘I am a Poet’ in 2009. His Hindi/Marathi short film ‘Fishing Surmai’ won him the best director jury award at the Mumbai International Short Film Festival in 2014. His latest film ‘Alifa’ was awarded the Best Film by a Debutant Director Award at the 64th National Film Awards, 2017.

Meanwhile, Anurag Saikia received the best music producer award from Big Music, India for his album Tup Tup. So far, he has worked in a number of regional as well as Bollywood films including ‘Shikaar’, ‘Man with the Binoculars’, ‘Dikchou Banat Palasax’, ‘Ishu’ and ‘Maj Rati Keteki.’
