GUWAHATI: Testing commenced today to check for community transmission of the novel coronavirus disease. Amid fears of the city having reached the third stage of COVID-19, health workers began collection of swab samples as part of the mass testing in Guwahati.
Given the recent spread of COVID-19 among people without any travel or contact history, the Assam Government had announced that 50,000 people in the city would be tested. People who wish to get tested can voluntarily go and visit any of the 12 allotted testing centres.

"After testing 50,000 people if a sizeable number is found positive then the state government might consider another phase of lockdown," said the health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a presser last week.
