COVID-19 Positive Cases in India Close to 80,000

GUWAHATI: Coronavirus cases in India inch closer to the 80,000 mark with close to 50,000 active cases and 2,549 deaths across the country so far, as per latest data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

With a spike of 3,722 COVID-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours, the death toll in the national capital stands at 106 with a total number of cases at 7,998.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected with 25,922 cases in total; the state has recorded 975 deaths which is the highest reported among all states.

Cases continue to rise in the southern state of Tamil Nadu with 9,227 cases and the number of positive cases in Gujarat stands at 9,267 with 566 deaths so far.

In the northeastern state of Assam, the total number of persons affected by the deadly virus has reached 79. The state has 37 active coronavirus positive cases with 2 deaths recorded so far, as per the latest announcement made by State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
