Covid-19: Highest Single-Day spike with 147 New Cases, State Tally at 539

GUWAHATI: Assam health minister took to Twitter to announce 13 new cases of Coronavirus at 10:10 PM today, taking the day's Covid-19 positive tally to 147.

With 147 new cases of coronavirus, Assam registered its biggest single-day spike on Monday, May 25. Assam's total tally now stands at 539, with 470 active positive cases of the novel coronavirus.

The latest cases were from Kamrup Metro (7) and Golaghat (6).

Announcing the same, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Swabs for testing taken before people sent for quarantine tested positive".

Earlier today, cases were reported from Lakhimpur, Sivasagar, Karimganj, Hailakandi, Nalbari, Morigaon, Dhemaji, Golaghat and other districts of the state.

A total of 62 positive patients have so far been cured and discharged from various hospitals of Assam, four persons have been reported dead and three have migrated to other states.

Commenting on the increase in cases, health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the number of Covid-19 has been increasing in the state due to the inflow of people who were stranded in other parts of the country.

Importantly, no community spread has taken place or been reported in Assam as yet.
