Country’s largest tractor distribution scheme launched

Chief Minister Sarbananada Sonowal inaugurated tractor distribution scheme under Chief Minister's Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana (CMSGUY) & ceremoniously distributed tractors to beneficiaries in Guwahati on December 10, Sunday.

Under CMSGUY, the Assam government will invest Rs 33,000 crore in the rural sector over the next few years.

While ceremonially launching the country’s largest tractor distribution scheme in the State under the Chief Minister Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana, at the Sarusajai Stadium, Sonowal urged the beneficiaries to make best use of the tractors provided to them to ensure doubling the rural income. The programme was organised by the State Agriculture Department.

Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal said, “It is a historic moment not only for our agricultural sector, but also a new beginning of great economic transformation for Assam by strengthening the rural areas. It’s great to start this process on the occasion of Swahid Divas. I urge all beneficiaries to utilise full potential of the scheme, taking Assam to great heights of prosperity and progress.”

Minister of Finance, Health and Education, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, in his speech, said as an entry point activity under CMSGUY, the government has decided to provide tractors to the farmers to give a new lease of life to agriculture economy of the State.

An amount of Rs 1,000 crore has been earmarked for its implementation, he informed.
