Coronavirus Cases In India Cross 50,000 Mark

GUWAHATI: The total number of positive cases of coronavirus in India now stands at 50,545. The last 10,000 patients were detected over a period three days.

The biggest spike in numbers -- 3900 over a period of 24 hours -- was reported on Tuesday, May 5, as stated by the union health ministry.

Maharashtra has reported the maximum number of cases with total cases in the state crossing 15,000. Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi are among the highest affected states.

Northeast India has been relatively less affected by the deadly virus. In Assam, 44 cases of coronavirus have been found positive so far.

The first case of Covid-19 was found in China in December 2019, while its first case in India was found on January 30. It's been more than four months since the first patient was found positive in Kerala. 

More than 14,000 people have recovered and more than 1,650 people have died so far in the country.
