GUWAHATI: One of the three Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel who have allegedly looted 1 kg gold from a businessman on 17 January from Guwahati Railway Station has been arrested.
In this regard, ASI Sraban Kumar Jha have been arrested on 4 February.
Earlier, a case was registered by the victim, Suresh Kumar under section 384/34 of the IPC on January 30th, 2020.
The incident took place when the accused, Jha along with two other police personnel found 1 Kg gold with the said businessman in the Dibrugarh-Delhi Rajdhani Express during the routine check.
Suresh alleged that the cops took the gold from his baggage saying they will register a police case and eventually “disappeared”.
“During our preliminary investigation, we’ve found that Shraban Kumar was on duty when the incident happened. Involvement of more people in this case is also a possibility,” police added.
