GUWAHATI: A contractor from Batahguli was abducted recently by five individuals under the guise of offering him a work contract. The victim, identified as Noor Hussain Talukdar, a resident of Tiniali in Batahguli, was lured by the perpetrators, who later used his mobile phone to demand a ransom of ₹2 lakh from his family.

Terrified, the family reported the abduction to the Satgaon police station, prompting action by law enforcement. Acting on police advice, the family agreed to deliver the ransom at a designated location in Panjabari’s Nabajyoti Nagar.
As the exchange was set to occur, the police, who had been tipped off, launched a covert operation and managed to apprehend two of the kidnappers. The remaining three assailants, sensing imminent arrest, abandoned Noor Hussain Talukdar and fled the scene.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Hassan Ali (28) and Shahnawaz Alam (24), both residents of Nabajyoti Nagar.
Talking to GPlus, a police official from Satgaon police station said, “The operation took place where we captured the suspects after laying a trap. We are working to uncover leads to other suspects involved, if any. The two arrested have been sent to the jail.”
A manhunt is currently underway to track down remaining fugitives.
