Congress Leaders Summoned By CID Over Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra In Guwahati

 

GUWAHATI: The CID Assam summoned Congress MLA Jakir Hussain Sikdar and Ramen Sarma for questioning in connection with a clash that took place when Rahul Gandhi-led ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ entered Guwahati last month.

Both individuals have been summoned by CID, Assam located at CID Police Station, Ulubari, Guwahati to appear before them on February 23 at 11:30 AM.

In the notice issued on February 17 stated, “In exercise of the powers conferred under sub-section (1) of Section 41A of Cr Pc, I, hereby inform you that during the investigation of FIR/Case No 55/2024 dated 23/01/2024 U/S U/S 120B/143/147/283/253/332/333/188/427 IPC, R/W Section 3 of Prevention of damage to Public Property Act, 1984 registered at Police Station, Basistha, it is revealed that there are reasonable grounds to question you to ascertain facts and circumstances from you, in relation to the present investigation. Hence you are directed to  appear before me at 11:30 AM on 23/02/2024 at CID Police Station, Ulubari, Guwahati.”

However talking to GPlus, ADGP, CID, Munna Prasad Gupta confirmed only one name, that is of MLA Ramen Sarma. 

Rahul Gandhi, along with other Congress leaders including KC Venugopal, Jitendra Singh, Jairam Ramesh, Srinivas BV, Kanhaiyya Kumar, Gaurav Gogoi, Bhupen Kumar Borah, Debabrata Saikia, and additional individuals, have been reportedly mentioned in the FIR.

On January 23, Congress supporters, in the presence of Rahul Gandhi and other leaders, dismantled police barricades after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma threatened to file an FIR if the Yatra tried to enter the main city of Guwahati.

During the incident, party supporters clashed with the police, leading to a lathi charge by the authorities in an attempt to control the situation. Unfortunately, the barricades could not be safeguarded, resulting in injuries to several police personnel and party workers.
