GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on September 21 ordered an official inquiry into the incident the video of which went viral; wherein Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police (SP) was seen assaulting the Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC).
The state government has directed the commissioner of Lower Assam division to initiate an inquiry into the alleged incident and submit a report within September 25.
According to reports, in a CCTV video which was made public recently by RTI activist Dulal Bora the SP of Kokrajhar, Rajen Singh was seen dragging and slapping EAC, Sailen Das in a hotel.
Both Rajen Singh and Sailen Das were present at a party organised at the hotel which was attended by many senior officers of the district administration. During the event, Das requested the SP to sing a song with him, however, the latter allegedly went on the stage and dragged Das out of the stage in front of the guests.
Even after repeated apologies, the SP slapped the magistrate and continued to assault him in front of many employees at the parking area.
