Cleanliness Drive Conducted Along Mora Bharalu River

GUWAHATI: The Save Bharalu Abhiyan, in active collaboration with the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), undertook another impactful cleanliness drive along the banks of the Mora Bharalu river at Barsapara, near the ACA cricket stadium recently.

The initiative, spearheaded by Rabin Mazumder, President of the Abhiyan, and supported by executive members Nava Prasad Sharma, Uttam Kar, general secretary Satya Ranjan Baruah, and Dhrubajyoti Saikia, witnessed active participation from local residents.

The clean-up operation targeted an area marred by uncollected garbage, predominantly comprising single-use plastic and polythene. With the assistance of GMC staff, the team, led by Mazumder, worked diligently to rid the vicinity of these environmental hazards. The event was supervised by GMC JE Seemanta Goswami and a sanitary inspector.

During his address to the local residents, Mazumder expressed his concern about the slow progress in terms of cleanliness along the bank of the Mora Bharalu, despite numerous cleaning and awareness programs conducted since 2021. He appealed to the community to refrain from the habit of disposing of household garbage directly into the river or its banks, urging them instead to utilise GMC's garbage collection services for a cleaner environment.
