President of AACOA Ismail Ali said, “We are in support of the bandh called on January 5 and strongly condemn the central government’s decision to implement the Citizenship Amendment Act which clearly discriminates against citizens on the basis of religion.”

All the government offices, however, will remain open. A circular in this regard was issued to all departments by the state government.

Around 10 central trade unions declared that approximately 25 crore people will participate in a nationwide strike to protest against the government's "anti-people's" policies on January 8.

Several trade unions like INTUC, HMS, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, CITU, AITUC, LPF, UTUC and other independent federations and associations had adopted a declaration in September 2019 to hold the strike.
