City hotel facing closure yet to get over Rs 4 crore from Govt agencies

The Brahmaputra Ashok Hotel of Guwahati, which is facing closure following a notification from the govt, hasn’t got its dues of over Rs 4 crore from various government agencies, which have used the hotel services in the last few years.

Employees who are part of the hotel allegedly said that such issues are the reason behind the closure of the hotel. “Several government agencies and some prominent individuals from the state government have stayed and used the services of the hotel, but haven’t paid their bills. We have repeatedly written to them, but we are yet to get responses from them.”

A total of Rs 2,36,71,907 is yet to be paid by different organizations and individuals. Among others, the Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner’s office is yet to pay an amount of Rs 22,44,691 and the CM’s secretariat Rs 20,42,117. Other than that, Rs 11.12 lakh and Rs 9.13 lakh are yet to be cleared by Director of Sports and Youth Welfare. Srinagar Beauty Parlour has not cleared bills of Rs 5.10 lakh. According to the Accounts Dept of the hotel, State Finance and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has not paid Rs 34,900.

According to an order from Assam Tourism Development Corporation Limited (ATDCL), the hotel will close its operations permanently with effect from 1st September 2017.
