In an initiative undertaken by NIRVAK YATRA, a group of young and enthusiastic artists of the city took part in a silent mime act in the heart of Deepor Beel, on May 6th.
The act was titled, ‘Sorai Jaak Noha Hol,’ which means “the flock of birds stopped coming”.
The prime objective of the act was to create awareness among the people, about the deploring condition of the water body.
NIRVAK YATRA has been actively involved in performing mime acts throughout Assam portraying various issues to create public awareness. Led by the young but extremely talented mime artist Minangka Deka who also directed the act, and comprising of students from Cotton University, Chaygaon College and St. Louis school, the mime team has previously acted on themes like women exploitation, road safety awareness, environment conservation etc. We wish them good luck for all of their future endeavours.
The unconventional form of protest garnered public interest and the group was praised for this initiative. The program was attended by many influential persons including environmental activist Bhumidhar Das, Councillor of ward no.6 Mr Debajit Rajbongshi and Yuva Neta Bhaskar Jyoti Das.
