Citizenship (Amendment) Bill lapsed in Rajya Sabha

GUWAHATI: The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, which was scheduled to be tabled in the Rajya Sabha on February 12 and then again on February 13, has been lapsed.

With the general elections around the corner, the bill will have now have to clear Lok Sabha once again when a new Lower House is elected.

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill was introduced and then passed in Lok Sabha on January 8 and then later sent to Rajya Sabha.

The Bill which has been facing strong refusal from the Opposition, local parties and organisations and some of BJP's own allies, has lapsed after the Upper House did not pass it today, February 13, the last day of the Budget session.
