Children of Defunct Assam Paper Mill Employees to get Rs 1 lakh

GUWAHATI: Assam Finance Minister Himanata Biswa Sarma in a press meet in Janata Bhawan on January 9 said that the state government will provide one-time financial aid of Rs. 1 Lakh to the children of employees of Nagaon & Cachar paper mills pursuing medical and engineering courses.

Announcing this Himanta Biswa also said, childrens of the mill workers who are pursuing graduation will get Rs 50,000 and Rs 75,000 for students pursuing PhD. 

The minister further announced that for the students of higher secondary, the government will grant Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 10,000 for students of Class 10.

The students can claim the money from January 14 onwards through the online website of Assam government.

Earlier Assam State Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Pijush Hazarika
said that 'good news' is arriving soon for the employees of Hindustan Paper Corporation Limited (HPCL).

Speaking to local media, the minister said, "I have said it yesterday and today also that we will provide everything that the employees deserve."

Speaking about the circular issued on behalf of the liquidators of HPCL asking employees to vacate the quarters, he said, "Circular has come but we would not agree, however, if there is any compulsion I will jump in to save as without giving the employees what they deserve they would not vacate."
