GUWAHATI: The Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi has been accused of alleged sexual harassment and consequent victimisation of a former junior court assistant and her family.

In a letter to top judges of the Supreme Court, the former employee has alleged that she and her family had to suffer a great deal after she resisted Justice Gogoi’s alleged sexual advances on two occasions in October 2018.

The 35-year-old woman has asked for immediate protection from any “coercive action” by the Delhi police in her letter and has claimed “a grave threat” to her life besides the lives of her family members, which also includes her 8-year-old daughter.

The woman was a junior court assistant at the Supreme Court from May 1, 2014 until December 21, 2018 when she was “unceremoniously terminated.” In addition to this, she has claimed that in December 2018, the same month she had been terminated, her husband and brothers-in-law were also suspended from their duties.

She has also alleged that a “false and frivolous” FIR has been filed against her on March 3, this year for which she was arrested and kept in custody, and her husband beaten up for the same.

In her letter, she has requested the judges of the Supreme Court to “constitute a special enquiry committee of senior retired judges to enquire” into these charges.
