GUWAHATI: In order to prevent students from malpractices in examination centers, Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) have said that in the upcoming matriculation exams, students caught cheating, carrying mobile phones and disobeying invigilators would not be expelled any longer but would face  suspension for three years straight.

The decision was taken after malpractices were reported from many centers in the previous years.

SEBA officials said  that for the first time, the question papers would be checked by the invigilator along with two witnesses before the commencement of the exam.

The HSLC examinations  for this year will be held from 10 to 29 Feb.

This year, a total of 3,58,446 students will appear for the exam across  860 centres.

SEBA also urged the local organizations to refrain from calling strike during the examination period.
