GUWAHATI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet against M. Srinivasa Rao, the former Assistant Commissioner of CGST, GST Commissionerate in Guwahati, in connection to a bribery case.

The case, initiated by the CBI on June 29, followed a complaint from a private businessman. The complaint alleged that Rao had issued demand and show cause notices and repeatedly summoned the complainant to the CGST office.
Despite having paid all due taxes for civil works conducted, the complainant claimed that Rao demanded ₹2 lakh as a bribe to issue favorable orders. After negotiations, Rao reportedly agreed to accept ₹50,000 as the bribe.
The CBI conducted a sting operation and caught Rao red-handed accepting the ₹50,000 bribe from the complainant. Following his arrest, searches were carried out at both his official and residential premises in Guwahati and Hyderabad.
