GUWAHATI: In a formal request addressed to the Secretary of the Sports and Youth Welfare Department, Assam Government, the Assam Triathlon Association has appealed for the inclusion of Aquathlon and Triathlon events in the upcoming Khelo India Youth Games and Khelo India Inter University Sports Meet.
The association, through its General Secretary, Arup Kr. Thakuria, submitted the request to encourage and promote Aquathlon and Triathlon players on a national level. The letter emphasises Assam's active participation in National and International Triathlon competitions, consistently securing medals in these events each year. Notably, Triathlon is an Olympic event and has been a part of the National Games in India for the last 25 years.
The association highlights the achievements of the state in the said events and urges the Sports and Youth Welfare Department to take necessary steps to include Aquathlon and Triathlon in the upcoming sporting meets. Thakuria, on behalf of the Assam Triathlon Association, expresses hope for the department's positive consideration of their request and acknowledges the importance of cooperation in this matter.
