CAB To Be ReIntroduced In Parliament’s Winter Session: Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while addressing party workers in Karimganj and Silchar said that the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) will be reintroduced in the Parliament’s winter session.

The CAB will grant Indian citizenship to minority refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

According to a report by the Business Insider, Sarma said that a law would also be passed to grant citizenship to people who came to India due to religious persecution.

Sarma added that those who have faith in “Bharat Mata, Buddhists, Jains, Christians, Sikhs and Parsis will be given citizenship, just wait for 3-4 months.”

He further added that the Assamese people, who have voted for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in large numbers in the recent elections want the Hindu Bengalis to be given citizenship.

Sarma stated that the most dangerous problem for Assam is “language-based nationalism. Assamese are never against Bengalis.”
