CAA Pleas of Assam to be heard Separately After Two Weeks: SC

GUWAHATI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday said that the CAA pleas of Assam will be heard in another two weeks in a bench headed by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) SA Bobde.

CJI in hearing pleas against CAA on Wednesday said that,” Assam looks differently placed and hence the plea has to be heard separately. The Court has given two weeks time to Centre to file a reply in Assam related matters.”

The SC also added that Tripura will follow the same thread as Assam since it has an accord and is placed separately from others. In addition, pleas concerning the states of Assam and Tripura will be clubbed together as both these states have separate agreements with the Centre regarding the preservation of native people.

The court has asked Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal to assist in identifying the matters related to CAA.

However, there seems to be some confusion over whether or not these pleas will be heard separately from the rest of the petitions. According to Bar and Bench, the Supreme Court has segregated these pleas for its own benefit and all the matters will be heard together.
