GUWAHATI: The Union government has approved the establishment of a new urea plant in Namrup to enhance fertiliser production and meet the growing agricultural demand in the region. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tons, significantly contributing to the state's self-sufficiency in urea supply.
This was announced in the Union Budget 2025 presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday, February 1. Notably, three dormant urea plants in the region have already been reopened, boosting production and ensuring a steady supply of fertilizers to farmers.
The new plant at Namrup is expected to play a crucial role in supporting agricultural productivity, reducing dependence on imports, and creating employment opportunities in Assam.
