BSNL, MTNL To Merge; Govt Announces Rs 15,000 Cr For Revival

GUWAHATI: The Union Cabinet approved the merging of state-run telecom operators BSNL and MTNL on Wednesday, October 23. 

Based on reports, this merger will provide an “attractive” VRS package for the employees.

The government will raise Rs. 15,000 crore in sovereign bonds for the revival of the companies and give them 4G spectrum on an administrative basis. 

Further, the assets of BSNL and MTNL, which are worth Rs. 38,000 crore, will be monetised.
