Brahmaputra Water is Unfit for Drinking, confirms State Minister

State Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta confirmed that the water of river Brahmaputra is polluted and not fit for drinking. The authorities have come to the conclusion after examining water sample at three different points of the state, viz, Bogibeel, Tezpur, and Maijan.

Several reports have revealed massive pollution in the river.

The Minister said water samples have been despatched to NEIST Jorhat and IIT Guwahati for further examination and to ascertain whether the water was chemically polluted. The Minister said that there is apprehension that China may be responsible for the pollution.

The Minister further revealed that the State government has written to the Centre detailing the test results.
