North Guwahati Boat Tragedy | 11-year-old Risks Life Thrice to save Family Members

GUWAHATI: The ferry boat that capsized on Wednesday, in North Guwahati near the Aswaklanta Temple shook the city and made headlines as a tragic and reckless incident considering that the Brahmaputra was at a full flow. Several people lost their families, while others are still hoping for the safe return of theirs.

Soon, after the boat capsized, photos circulated on social media showing how daunting the task of saving the victims was. Around 12 people who could swim, thrashed and swam to safety. 

However, among the passengers, was an 11-year-old braveheart, who risked his life thrice, and managed to save his mother and his aunt after the accident. The 11 year old is Kamal Kishore Das from North Guwahati. 

Kamal was traveling on the ill-fated boat with his mother and aunt when the unfortunate incident happened.  Reportedly, Kamal's mother and aunt did not know swimming. The boy, within a few minutes of the accident, dived into the water to save them, fearlessly.

Kamal is a student of class VI, and studies at the St Anthony’s School, North Guwahati.
