The first shockwave came when Tauseef Ali Farooqui, allegedly a fourth-year student of B.Tech Biotechnology, made a chilling declaration on March 23rd via an "open letter" on LinkedIn.

Farooqui brazenly announced his intention to join ISIS, claiming to have "repented" for his past actions.

He even dared anyone to confront him as he prepared to embark on his journey, starting from Pan Bazar. The revelation sent shockwaves through the university, swaying authorities to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter further.

As the dust was yet to settle from Farooqui's shocking statement, another disturbing incident was reported on April 9, 2024. Dibakar Maurya, a 21-year-old student from Rajasthan, went missing from Saraighat bridge under mysterious circumstances.

Talking to GPlus, an official from Jalukbari police station said, "Police were alerted when one of the patrolling cars from Jalukbari police station spotted a rented scooty with Maurya's ID card around 10 p.m. Suspicions arose that Maurya might have jumped from the bridge, but as of now, his body remains unfounded"

The string of unfortunate events continued with the discovery of the lifeless body of Saurabh Kumar, a second-semester student from Bihar, in his hostel room at Dihing hostel.

The revelation came as a shock to the campus community, sparking concerns about the safety and well-being of students within the university premises.

Talking to GPlus, an official from North Guwahati police station officials confirmed the incident and assured that investigations were underway to ascertain if foul play was involved in Kumar's sudden demise.

The sudden loss of a young life has cast a pall over the campus, prompting soul-searching and calls for accountability.

Talking to GPlus, a senior official from IIT Guwahati shed light on the systemic issues plaguing the institution's hostel management.

"Unlike other hostels of other institutions in IIT Hostel wardens are just for namesake. Student associate wardens more concerned about their personal advancement than the safety and well-being of students. The purpose of these wardens is to ensure timely intervention and should have constant touch with the students", the senior official from IIT Guwahati informed GPlus.
