GUWAHATI: BJP’s Diplu Ranjan Sarmah secured a decisive victory over Congress candidate Tanzil Hussain, son of Lok Sabha MP Rakibul Hussain, in the bye-election to Samaguri assembly seat. Despite trailing in the initial phase, Sarmah staged a remarkable comeback and won by a margin of 24,501 votes.

Earlier, when leading by around 5000 votes, Hussain had thanked the voters for ensuring his victory.
In the Bongaigaon Assembly Constituency, Diptimayee Choudhury of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) clinched the seat with an impressive 74,734 votes. Her nearest rival, Brajenjit Singha of the Indian National Congress (INC), managed 39,570 votes, while Independent candidate Sailendra Sarkar fell far behind with just 13,381 votes.
Meanwhile, in the Sidli Assembly Constituency, Nirmal Kumar Brahma of the United People’s Party, Liberal (UPPL), secured a commanding win with 95,243 votes. He defeated Suddho Kumar Basumatary of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) by a significant margin of 37,016 votes.
In the Behali Assembly Constituency by-election, BJP’s Diganta Ghatowal emerged victorious, securing 50,947 votes. He outpaced Congress candidate Jayanta Borah by a comfortable margin of 9,051 votes.
