GUWAHATI: The state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a ‘Booth Sammelan’ on Saturday at veterinary field, Khanapara in Guwahati in its support for Citizenship Amendment Act.

The booth-level conclave was attended by booth presidents, BJP’s working president JP Nadda, party’s national general secretary Ram Madhav, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, state BJP president Ranjit Dass, state finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, other senior BJP leaders and thousands of party workers.

While speaking during the booth conclave, J P Nadda said, “I want to assure you that Clause 6 of Assam Accord will be implemented in letter and spirit in Assam. It is our responsibility to preserve the culture and identity of Assam.”

He also accused Congress and Rahul Gandhi of adopting vote bank politics and misleading people regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act.

“For Congress, their vote bank is bigger than the interests of the country. But for us, the national interest and the country is bigger than the votes,” said Nadda.

Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter and wrote on Saturday, “I am humbled to see people joining us even from faraway places to make this #BJP rally in #Guwahati such a huge success. We promise, under the visionary leadership of PM Sri @narendramodi we shall always stand up to your expectations.”
