BJP morally responsible for breakup of Alliance: Prafulla Mahanta

GUWAHATI: Former Assam Chief Minister and founder of Asom Gana Parishad, Prafulla Kumar Mahanta held the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) responsible for the break-up. Talking to media persons in Dispur Mahanta stated, “This is an alliance government, not the BJP government. It was formed on the basis of the pre-poll alliance. Just because they had the largest numbers, they formed the alliance government.  All decisions and policies have to be discussed with allies.”

He said that the BJP has not been able to tell how many people have been persecuted on religious grounds in Bangladesh and Pakistan and thus, they are morally responsible for this break up in the alliance.

Mahanta added that the AGP has been protesting the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 since the first day and this Bill is dangerous for the identity of Assamese people.

“I have been continuously against this Bill and the decision was taken on 7th January to break the friendship is most welcome. Though it is late but a good step,” said the former Chief Minister.
