BJP gets majority of 41% seats in Assam Panchayat Polls, Congress manages 32%

GUWAHATI: The recently concluded Panchayat polls have gone positive for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Of the results that have come out the BJP has managed to get 41 per cent (10,953) of the total posts and Congress has won 32 per cent (8,646). The third position is by the independents who won 2927 posts and Asom Gana Parishad was fourth with 1853 posts and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) won 1,309 posts, according to a press release by the Assam State Election Commission. The counting has been going on for five days now since 12th December.

The Assam Panchayat elections were held in two phases on December 5 and 9 to elect 21,990 Gaon Panchyat Members, 2,199 Gaon Panchayat Presidents, 2,199 Anchalik Parishad Members and 420 Zila Parishad Members across the state. The polls witnessed an overall 82 per cent voting.
