Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta takes Charge as new DGP of Assam

GUWAHATI: Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, took charge as the new Director General of Police (in-charge) of Assam on November 30th, 2019. 
Mahanta is an IPS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre 1988 batch.

Mahanta is the successor of Kuladhar Saikia, whose tenure ended today.
Saikia was on a three-month extension.

According to a notification issued by the Assam government Mahanta is “allowed to look after the current duties of DGP, Assam in addition to existing duties as the incumbent DGP Kuladhar Saikia will retire on Saturday”.

The Assam Government has recommended names of four senior IPS officers to the UPSC to fill in the post. Mahanta will look into the duties until a full time DGP is selected. He is also serving as the special DGP (Border).
