GUWAHATI: Chaos erupted in the Beltola area of the city, specifically at Beltola Tiniali, as traffic police personnel were notably seen absent from their duty posts which led to an unregulated vehicular movement.

The absence of traffic officials has led to a blatant disregard for traffic rules by citizens, creating a hazardous situation that is currently going unchecked due to the lack of enforcement at the location.

This was pointed out by the Minister Of Tourism and Public Health Engineering Jayanta Mallabaruah on March 4 who while returning to his residence found the traffic police personnel at Beltola Tiniali were not performing their duties.
Having observed this issue persisting for some time, Jayanta Mallabaruah reportedly took action by contacting the traffic in-charge and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) to address the matter.
Talking to GPlus, the Traffic In-Charge of Basistha Police Station said, “We work on a three-shift basis here at the Beltola point which are 7 AM-12 PM, 12 PM-5 PM, and 5 PM to 10 PM or more. This point handles traffic from all over the city causing a major influx of vehicles at times and with the roads being small, the possibility of setting up traffic lights or ITMS integration is a bit difficult. So, have been trying to cope by increasing manpower at this point to ease the traffic flow.”
Instances like these urge us to ask a crucial question - Are our city's traffic laws being upheld effectively? Are we contributing to the problem, or are we actively engaged in finding solutions?
