'Belona Village'- The first ‘Clean and Green’ village of Assam

GUWAHATI: Belona village in Bajali of Barpeta district in Assam has recently earned the distinction of becoming the first ‘Clean and Green’ village of Assam. 

The village has become a prime example of following the ‘Swachhata’ principle by completely banning single use plastic. 

A fine of Rs. 500 is imposed if someone is spotted using plastic and women of the village make paper bags which are distributed to all shops in and around the village.

The village is also 100% intoxicant free and it has a fine of Rs. 1001 if someone causes any nuisance after getting intoxicated.

Assam CM sarbananda Sonowal on Twitter worte,"Belona in Bajali, Barpeta district is Assam's first 'Clean & Green' village. A community coming together to walk on the path of #Swachhata, the people of Belona has shown how conscious collective effort can #BeatPlasticPollution."

Recently, PM Modi also lauded the efforts of the villagers and tweeted “Very good! Cleanliness powered by community initiatives is always wonderful to see. Congratulations to everyone who has worked on this Swachhata effort”
