The Dispur police arrested two persons – Sarat Basumatary (driver) and Manik Baishya (homeguard) — in connection with extortion of money from a resident of Shillong, who also happens to be a musician.

Three more police personnel – Aditya Gogoi (3rd APBn), Babul Bhoumik and Aditya Saikia (14th APBn) who were hand-in-glove with the arrested were sent back to the battalion headquarters for disciplinary action.

The victim was returning to Shillong after performing at a musical function in Guwahati when the incident happened. An amount of Rs. 10,000 (ten thousand) was extorted from the victim. He was upset and wrote about the incident to the Director General of Police (DGP), Meghalaya who sent a letter to the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati. The City police swung into action and an enquiry was launched. The enquiry verified that the ghastly incident had actually happened and a case was registered at the Dispur Police Station.
