GUWAHATI: Banking services across the country might be hit during Durga Puja as four unions of nationalised banks have warned of a strike on September 26-27 to protest against the government's mega-merger plan for state-run banks.
All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC), the All India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA), the Indian National Bank Officers Congress (INBOC) and the National Organisation of Bank Officers (NOBO) have called in the strike.
It is to be mentioned that if the strike takes place, there will be a total disruption of business for 4 continuous days as September 28 is a fourth Saturday followed by a Sunday.
Earlier, on August 30, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the four mergers, a move she said would result in 12 public sector banks in the system instead of 27.
