Bank Employee Arrested From Bihar For Allegedly Embezzling ₹34 Lakh In Assam’s Dhubri

 

GUWAHATI: The Assam Police arrested Shivshankar Prasad Bin, an employee of a bank in South Salmara, Dhubri, for allegedly embezzling ₹34 lakh. He was apprehended on Sunday, April 6, in Hajipur, Bihar, and brought to the Dhubri police station on Monday, April 7. During the arrest, authorities recovered ₹10 lakh in cash from his possession.

Bin, a resident of Dhubri, is accused of siphoning off funds from both customer deposits and the bank's reserves. 

The case surfaced when the branch manager of the South Salmara branch reported discrepancies in customer deposit balances following complaints from two to three customers. An internal inquiry revealed that Bin had allegedly misappropriated around ₹8 lakh by failing to credit customer deposits to their accounts. Further investigation uncovered an additional shortfall of ₹26 lakh from the bank’s own reserves.

Talking to GPlus, an official from the Dhubri police station confirmed the arrest, stating, “We received a complaint from the branch manager regarding discrepancies in customer deposits. Based on our investigation, we traced the accused to Hajipur in Bihar and arrested him. He has been brought to Dhubri. The investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the embezzlement and to recover the remaining funds.”
