In a press conference on Tuesday, April 8, Superintendent of Police Ajagar Basumatary and Additional Superintendent of Police Trinayan Bhuyan said that the gang stole the bikes in Assam and sold them in Meghalaya, changing number plates
Those arrested have been identified as Nayan Deka, Dhanjit Boro, Sanjay Boro, Lokman Boro, Ratan Boro, and Nirmal Kalita. The SP said they worked through an associate settled in Meghalaya.
“Following the thefts they would wait for some time and after putting on Meghalaya plates they would ride the bikes to that state where their associate would take over,” the SP said. He said the police have details of the associate and efforts are on to apprehend him, too.
