The Gauhati High Court on Tuesday rejected a bail application of arrested chairperson of Assam Public Service Commission(APSC) and prime accused in the cash for jobs scam, Rakesh Kumar Paul.

Paul was arrested in August last year on charges of giving appointment to undeserving candidates in exchange of money. Altogether 22 civil service and police officers have been arrested in the past one week for getting jobs through Paul and his company.

Rakesh Paul is currently in judicial custody. The Supreme court had earlier granted bail in a case registered in Dibrugarh district but was later arrested in another similar case registered with Bhangagarh police station here.

Three other officers, who are also wanted by police, is likely to surrender before police soon.

The scam has stirred a political controversy as relatives of politicians belonging to Congress and BJP have also been arrested in connection with it.
