GUWAHATI: An auto-rickshaw driver has been detained for committing obscene acts in public spaces and sexually harassing women in the Athgaon and Chatribari areas of Guwahati, on December 20.

The accused, identified as Monibul Islam, was apprehended following multiple complaints and a viral video on social media exposing his indecent behaviour.
According to the FIR lodged against him, Monibul was repeatedly seen engaging in obscene acts, including masturbating in front of girls' hostels in the Athgaon and Chatribari areas. A video dated December 18, captured him in the act, causing widespread outrage among residents. Locals have also accused him of flashing his private parts at hostel residents, including minors, and stalking young women during nighttime.
"The incidents have caused major unrest among citizens, especially women," a representative from the complainant organization stated. "Residents are now living in fear, and several victims are traumatized by his actions. The authorities must take stringent action to ensure safety and justice."
Speaking to GPlus, an official from the Bharalumukh Police Station confirmed the detention of the accused. "We have detained the auto-rickshaw driver and are thoroughly investigating the case."
