Assamese Language to be made Compulsory till Class 10 in all Schools

GUWAHATI: Assam State Finance Minster while addressing a presser in Janata Bhavan on December 21, said that Assamese language as a subject will be made compulsory in all schools till tenth (10) standard.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said that in the coming State Legislative Assembly the cabinet will introduce a bill in which any medium- English, Bengali, Hindi schools will have to compulsorily teach Assamese language as a subject till Class 10.

"Assamese subject will be included compulsory up to class 10 in all medium schools including English, Hindi, Bengali," said Himanta Biswa. 

However, this provision will not be applicable in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) areas; Bodo dominated areas, Hills districts and Barak Valley.
