The Delhi Zoo also sent a female rhinoceros and a tigress in return for a pair of the same from the Guwahati Zoo.

The exchange programme is aimed at enhancing conservation efforts and enriching the genetic diversity of both the Zoos.

The animals arrived in Guwahati by road.

Talking to GPlus, the Zoo DFO, Aswini Kumar, said, “All the newly arrived animals are being kept separately to ensure their smooth acclimatisation
to the new environment. The animals will continue receiving the same diet and care they had been accustomed to in their previous homes.”

The blue-and-gold macaw is aptly named, and with a gorgeous blue body and dark lemon-yellow chest, this is a bird that’s hard to miss. It is also referred to as the blue-and-yellow macaw; they are one of the most popular large parrots.

The blackbuck (Antilope cervicapra), also known as the Indian antelope, is a medium-sized antelope native to India and Nepal. It inhabits grassy plains and lightly forested areas with perennial water sources.
