Assam: Your Restaurant Bill Likely To Get Expensive As Price Rise Hits The Fan

GUWAHATI: Eating outside is going to get more expensive soon as the Government continues to hike the prices of fuel and all essential commodities. With a substantial hike in prices of commodities, restaurants in Assam are planning to increase the prices of dishes.

The All Assam Restaurant Association is in talks with all its member outlets to implement a hike in food prices soon. Reportedly, the Association is mulling implementing a 15-18 percent hike in the prices of dishes.

A renowned restaurateur told G Plus that the increase in fuel prices has subsequently led to the rise in transportation charges for all ingredients. "Then there is a price rise of the ingredients itself. It has become difficult for us to dish out delicacies at the same old prices. Also, the price of commercial LPG has crossed the Rs 2000 mark," the restaurateur added.

The price of commercial Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) was raised by Rs 250 from April 1, reaching Rs 2,398 for a 19 kg commercial cylinder in Guwahati. There has been a monthly fluctuation in the price of commercial LPG for some time. After a decrease of Rs 100 in January, it was hiked by Rs 105 last month.

A member of the All Assam Restaurant Association informed about the price rise and said that the same may not be implemented in all restaurants. "We are considering and restaurants who wish to impose the hike will do so gradually," the member added.
