Assam Unveils Strategies For Guwahati's Flood-Free Future

GUWAHATI: A comprehensive review of significant infrastructure projects was conducted by the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma focusing on the transformative initiatives for Guwahati's development.

The key projects under scrutiny included the construction of a Ring Road and measures to mitigate flooding in the city.

The updates shared are as follows:

Efforts are underway to expedite the removal of encroachments and the construction of protective barriers along the Bahini and Bharalu rivers.

A holistic government strategy has been initiated to enhance the capacity of drains and channels systematically. This aims to ensure a smooth water flow to key water bodies such as Silsako, Lakhimijan, Borsola, and Bondajan. Successful implementation of this plan is anticipated to significantly reduce the impact of flash floods in the region.

With regard to the city's Ring Road project, the Chief Minister has instructed officials to adopt a "whole of government" approach. This strategy aims to minimise disruptions to the public as construction activities commence.
