GUWAHATI: Two senior members of the Congress Party in Assam have passed away.

Jamaluddin Ahmed was a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Badarpur. Former Congress MLA Aroti Kochari Hazarika also passed away at a private hospital in Dergaon, Golaghat in Assam.
Hazarika was reportedly suffering from a heart ailment. She served as an MLA of the Dergaon constituency during Tarun Gogoi-led government in Assam from 2011 to 2016.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and other senior leaders paid tributes to the deceased leaders.
"Very saddened by the sudden death of the senior leader of Assam Congress and my colleague, Shri Jamaluddin Ahmed and former MLA of Dergaon Aarti Hazarika Kachari. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. May the departed souls rest in eternal peace," Debabrata Saikia posted on Twitter.
