GUWAHATI: The Assam Cabinet in a meeting held on December 19 introduced The Assam Transport Workers' Social Security Scheme, 2022. The scheme will provide social security to motor transport workers against injury, physical disability, and major diseases, and educational help to their children, among others.
The Assam Transport Workers' Social Security Scheme, 2022 has been introduced under the provision of sub-section-4 of Section 3 of the Unorganised Workers' Social Security Act, 2008.
As per the scheme, the Unorganised Workers' Social Security Board will have a fund to devise and implement welfare measures with a fund which will be created by the grant-in-aid by the central and state government, contributions by beneficiaries, the amount received from the collection of cess and from the revenue collected by the Assam Transport Authority.
