This move has been taken to provide comprehensive and quality healthcare to tea garden workers and their families, addressing long-standing health challenges.

The Ayushman Arogya Mandirs will offer healthcare under 12 packages, including maternal and child health, infectious and non-communicable disease management, emergency services, and elderly care. Facilities will include labour rooms, neonatal emergency units, free medicines, and diagnostic services. Yoga and wellness activities will also be integrated to promote healthier lifestyles.

The MoU signing event was held in the presence of Health and Family Welfare Minister Ashok Singhal, and was attended by Ministers Pijush Hazarika, Prashanta Phukan, Rupesh Gowala, and Krishnendu Paul, alongside MLAs, tea estate stakeholders, and senior officials.

Minister Singhal reiterated the government’s focus on critical health issues, including anemia, malnutrition, maternal and neonatal mortality, tuberculosis, leprosy, and non-communicable diseases like hypertension and diabetes.

Singhal noted several other initiatives are already underway, such as Mobile Medical Units, the Wage Compensation Scheme for pregnant women, and public-private partnership (PPP) agreements with tea estate hospitals.

Relatably, 4,947 health centres in Assam have already been upgraded to Ayushman Arogya Mandirs.
